Our Purpose

Small Teams.
Real Impact.
Right Where You Are.

Shomer isn't a large-scale government program or a distant organization. We're a local initiative — helping neighbors become guardians. Each Shomer team is a tight-knit group of 8–12 trained volunteers embedded directly in a community: a church, a neighborhood, a business district.

When conventional help is slow or unavailable, a Shomer team already knows the people, the layout, the needs — and is ready to act with calm, trained conviction.

The Shomer Difference

Guardians, Not
First Responders.

Professional first responders are essential — but they can't be everywhere. Shomer teams fill the gap that exists in every community: the critical first minutes, the overlooked corner of a church, the business owner who doesn't know what to watch for.

We train ordinary, faithful people to act with extraordinary competence — medical basics, threat recognition, calm leadership, and community protection — all in service of their neighbors.

"As He who searches for His sheep and seeks them out — we watch over our community with vigilance."

Who We Serve

Every Corner of Your Community

Shomer teams anchor themselves to the places people already gather — and become a quiet, prepared presence within each one.

Houses of Worship
Church & Congregation Safety

A congregation is a gathering of people who trust each other. Shomer teams embedded in churches provide a quiet, trained presence — protecting the flock without fear or alarm.

  • Discreet situational awareness during services
  • Entry point monitoring and access flow planning
  • Medical response for elderly and at-risk members
  • Evacuation planning for sanctuary layouts
  • Crisis communication between leadership & congregation
  • Threat recognition training for pastoral staff
Local Businesses
Workplace Preparedness Training

Businesses carry responsibility for employees and customers. Shomer provides situational awareness training that turns ordinary staff into an alert, calm, capable first line of response.

  • Workplace threat recognition & de-escalation
  • Active incident response procedures
  • Employee Stop the Bleed & basic trauma care
  • Communication protocols during emergencies
  • Shelter-in-place and lockdown planning
  • Post-incident documentation & recovery
Neighborhoods
Block-Level Community Teams

The neighborhood is where resilience starts. A Shomer team embedded in a few city blocks knows its elderly residents, its families with young children, and who has medical needs — before any crisis begins.

  • Vulnerable resident identification & check-in systems
  • Supply sharing & resource network mapping
  • Block-level communication trees
  • Disaster shelter coordination with local leadership
  • Patrol & perimeter awareness for community safety
  • After-incident support & recovery coordination
Training Framework

The Four Fundamental Elements

Every Shomer guardian is trained across all four elements — creating a versatile, balanced team capable of responding to real community needs.

01
Element One

Medical Response & Triage

120 hours  ·  Practical, community-focused care

Guardians learn to provide emergency medical care in the real environments they inhabit — a church parking lot, a business hallway, a neighbor's living room. Emphasis is placed on scenarios most likely to occur in local settings.

  • Stop the Bleed & trauma stabilization
  • CPR / AED operation in public spaces
  • Recognizing cardiac, stroke, and diabetic emergencies
  • Psychological first aid for traumatized bystanders
  • Triage in multi-casualty situations
Local Focus

Training scenarios are set in churches, office spaces, and neighborhoods — so guardians respond with confidence in the exact places they serve.

02
Element Two

Situational Awareness Threat Assessment

80 hours  ·  The heart of local guardian work

The most powerful thing a guardian can do is notice — before anything happens. This element trains guardians to read environments, recognize behavioral signals, and identify risks early. It forms the cornerstone of our church and business training programs.

  • Baseline behavior recognition & anomaly detection
  • Pre-attack indicators in public & worship settings
  • Crowd psychology & gathering point analysis
  • Communication under pressure without causing panic
  • Reporting protocols & handoff to authorities
Local Focus

Church ushers, business owners, and neighborhood watch members receive targeted SA training adapted to their specific environment and role.

03
Element Three

Community Organization & Leadership

100 hours  ·  Leading under pressure, serving with clarity

A Shomer team's strength lies in its trust and coordination. Guardians learn to organize quickly, communicate clearly, and make sound decisions — without ego, without panic, and always in service of those around them.

  • Small-team coordination & rapid role assignment
  • Calm communication during chaotic events
  • Coordinating with professional responders on arrival
  • Conflict de-escalation in high-tension situations
  • Resource sharing & equitable distribution
Local Focus

Team leads are trained to interface directly with church elders, business managers, and neighborhood associations — keeping leadership structures intact under stress.

04
Element Four

Protection Protocols

90 hours  ·  Safeguarding the most vulnerable

Whether it's guiding a congregation safely out of a sanctuary or ensuring an elderly neighbor is accounted for during a neighborhood emergency, Shomer guardians are trained to protect with purpose — never from fear, always from commitment.

  • Evacuation planning for specific building layouts
  • Care & accommodation for elderly, children, disabled
  • Establishing safe areas within familiar spaces
  • Perimeter awareness without intimidation
  • Dignity-centered crowd movement guidance
Local Focus

Training uses the actual floor plans and gathering patterns of partner churches and businesses — so protection plans are real, not theoretical.

Situational Awareness Training

A Trained Eye Changes Everything.

Most incidents don't begin without warning — they begin without someone who knew what to look for. Shomer's Situational Awareness training is offered as a focused program for churches and businesses, even independent of full guardian membership.

For Churches
Sanctuary & Congregation Awareness

Houses of worship are uniquely open by design — and that openness requires a trained, faithful presence. Shomer teaches church staff, ushers, and volunteers to maintain awareness without altering the welcoming atmosphere that defines congregational life.

  • Identifying disruptive or pre-violent behavior patterns
  • Entry monitoring that feels like hospitality, not security
  • Sanctuary exit flow and evacuation communication
  • Coordinating discreetly with pastoral leadership
  • Children's ministry and nursery area protocols
  • Parking lot and campus perimeter awareness
For Businesses
Workplace & Customer-Facing Environments

Employees spend more waking hours at work than almost anywhere else. Shomer's business SA training turns a standard workforce into a calm, alert, coordinated team — without turning the office into a fortress.

  • Threat recognition in retail, office, and industrial settings
  • Customer behavior anomalies and de-escalation approaches
  • Workplace violence prevention and response protocols
  • Emergency communication without triggering panic
  • Employee roles during lockdown or shelter-in-place
  • Coordination with local law enforcement on arrival
For Neighborhoods
Block-Level Environmental Awareness

Neighborhoods are communities of relationships — and when people know their neighbors, they naturally notice when something's wrong. Shomer formalizes that instinct with training that sharpens observation without breeding suspicion.

  • Recognizing baseline patterns on your block
  • Identifying signs of distress in neighbors
  • Reporting concerns through appropriate channels
  • Natural surveillance through normal daily activity
  • Resource and wellness check coordination
Why It Matters

The average person can observe dozens of pre-incident signals every day — and never consciously register them. Shomer training doesn't create paranoia. It creates calibrated, faithful attention — the kind that saves lives through presence, not force.

Standalone Training Available

Churches and businesses can request Situational Awareness workshops without committing to full Shomer team membership. Half-day and full-day formats available for staff and volunteers.

Become a Guardian

Your Community
Is Looking for
Someone Like You.

Shomer teams are built from ordinary people with an extraordinary commitment to their neighbors. We're not necessarily looking for law enforcement background or military experience — we're looking for character, faithfulness, and a willingness to be trained.

01
Rooted in Your Community
You know your neighborhood, your congregation, or your workplace — and you care what happens to the people in it.
02
Calm Under Pressure
You don't need to be fearless — just willing to stay present when others might panic. Training builds the rest.
03
Committed to Service
A guardian serves from conviction, not ego. You understand that protecting others is a calling, not a role.
04
Available to Train
Training happens in your community on flexible schedules. Full certification takes dedication — and it's worth every hour.

The Guardian Pledge

Because of the God of our Salvation, we will serve others where He calls us. As He who searches for His sheep and seeks them out, we watch over our community with vigilance. As He feeds them with good pasture, we provide for those in need with integrity. As He binds up the injured and strengthens the weak, we protect the vulnerable with courage and heal with compassion. We make decisions guided by His wisdom that preserves human life above all other considerations, for we are His appointed guardians.
